What is filler media?

Filler media refers to materials used to fill voids between other media or to add volume to a material. This material can be organic or inorganic and can be used in various applications, such as in chemical and oil industries, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.

In the chemical and oil industries, filler media are added to the reactor vessel to provide better heat transfer during the chemical reaction. They also reduce the turbulent flow of the reaction mixture, thus reducing the chance of damage to the reactor vessel.

In the cosmetics industry, filler media are used in products like skin creams, which add volume to the product and make it more appealing to the users. In the pharmaceutical industry, filler media are used in tablets and capsules, where they help to add bulk or volume to the medication, so that it can be easily swallowed and consumed.

Some common types of filler media include talc, silica, calcium carbonate, magnesium stearate, and microcrystalline cellulose. The choice of filler media is made depending on the type of application, as well as its physical and chemical properties.
